Orientation:
All Richland Library customers interested in using the Fiberworks Studio will need to attend an orientation.
Orientations are for those who want to gain full use of the Fiberworks studio, and is designed for those who already know how to operate the equipment they intend to use (sewing machines, etc.) or are gaining orientation to basic equipment (yarn swift and baller, cutting mats, etc).
Please note, wait times for orientations vary from one to three weeks depending on availability.
The Fiberworks Studio is reservable to those who have gone through orientation for the space. There are two slots available at any time, guaranteeing each person one large central table, access to one sewing machine, and access to one pressing station. You must have gone through orientation on any specific tools you use. Each slot is allowed one guest. Guests may not use equipment. IDs are required to sign in to the room. The entire room may still close for programs and appointments with staff. Once certified to use the space, you may reserve the space online or by calling 803-929-3445.
If you have a fiber arts project for which you would like assistance or advice, or you’re interested in scheduling a one-on-one beginner sewing or knitting appointment e-mail csumaydeng-bryan@richlandlibrary.com to book an appointment. Meet the Instructor:
Claire Sumaydeng-Bryan Fiber Arts Coordinator 803.719.5007 csumaydeng-bryan@richlandlibrary.com
Claire is a seamstress, knitter, cook, gardener, and perpetual craft dabbler. Although she was born in New York, she grew up in Columbia and considers it home. Claire has a background in art history and moonlighted in her college theater department’s costume department. She’s interested in where and why we have historically drawn lines between art and craft.
